Turn a small space into a nice little sewing area.

Small Sewing rooms are any small space where you can go to sew.  There are sewing areas, spaces, corners, lofts, rooms, studios. It all depends on how much area you have to play with.  Very small space?  No problem.  Here are a three options.

One wall

If  you have only one wall then use a banquet table.  It is best to stay away from the light weight plastic tables, as they are too light and will vibrate when the sewing machine is being used.  The heavier metal tables are best.  On the table there is room for the machine,  and a cutting area. Use the space under the table for some cabinets or storage boxes.

Above the table on the wall mount a peg board the length of the table. This is one of the best organizers you can use because you can continuously change it according to your needs.  It can hold absolutely anything you need, a spool rack, small or medium baskets, scissors, rulers, patterns, etc.

Add some color to the peg board to brighten up the sewing space.  Spacers should be used when mounting the peg board to allow room for the hooks to slip in.  Purchase plenty of hooks as you will have many options  for storage.

Two drawer file cabinets

Use a couple of  two drawer file cabinets with a 30 inch space between them.  Place a hollow core door over the cabinets or better yet place a padded cut-n-press board over the cabinets.  If  the table top feels to low,  place 4 bricks in a rectangle or a 1x6 wood frame on the cabinets then place the board on top. This should raise the table about 6 inches.  A good height should be about 35 inches  from the floor.

CUT-N-PRESS Board

½ inch thick particle board
½ inch thick absorbent padding

muslin – how much depends on the size of your board plus 4 ½ in. on all sides.

Place the particle board on the padding and wrap it over the board edges and staple all around.  Corners will need trimming to avoid bulkiness.  Cover the staples with duct tape to avoid scratches and repeat the first procedure with the muslin.

Sewing Machine Cabinet

The sewing machine cabinet is actually a beautiful piece of furniture with a secret.  If it is placed in a kitchen, living room or family room, no one would ever know that it is a sewing area.  The sewing machine can be lifted and lowered with ease.  Sewing machine cabinets are designed for storage.   There is no need to put your sewing away unless you want to, but when you do decide to close up the sewing area,  it can be easy, fast and convenient.

Organize your sewing room and have room for your sewing, quilting or other large projects.  The sewing cabinet has a 3-position lift mechanism that provides ample work surface and allows for storage of your machine from view when not in use.

Made of solid pressed wood and laminate finish.  The table extension leaf will create an additional 5 square feet of space behind your Homespun 3700 series cabinet.  The leaf slides along a 34" rod and can beslid anywhere along the rod to custom position.

When your sewing project is done, the leaf extension folds up nicely and hangs behind the cabinet back out of view.
